Karen was on vacation in New Zealand with her husband Robert and seven-year-old son Luc when their car was involved in a head-on automobile accident on December 16, 2006. Karen's husband Rob was driving while Karen was asleep in the back seat when the accident occurred. It is believed that Karen died instantly and did not suffer from her injuries.
